Who Am I?

My name is Marlisa Lake, and I'm a full-time graduate student here at FSU currently working on my M.Ed in Digital Media, New Literacies, & Learning. I have about 3 odd jobs which include working as an office assistant, substitute teaching, and tutoring/babysitting elementary children after school.

However, I can hardly be defined by what I do during the 9-5 work day. My passions in life are highlighted by continuous learning and anything that involves the creative process. I love making art of all types (pottery, canvas painting, string art), cooking and baking (note* I am a self-proclaimed foodie), and reading all sorts of books. Philosophy & spirituality have become of a particular interest to me in the past couple of years, as I feel that these two subjects have helped me a considerable amount on my personal growth journey.

I currently live in White Hall-which is technically South Fairmont-but I was raised in a small rural WV town called Philippi. I like to credit my humble upbringing into turning me into the person that I am today. (:

I hope to use this class as a way to assimilate all of the ideas and knowledge that I've accumulated throughout the duration of my graduate studies as well as personal readings. I've been browsing through some of the course material, and I've noticed terms such as education reform and case studies. I hope to make sense of my learning experiences and textbook knowledge in order to put everything into action.

-Just to elaborate a little on my PicLit below...I try to recognize the beauty and magic all around us. Art is everywhere-we listen to music during our daily commute, we eat food for its visual appeal and taste, and we entertain ourselves by watching films or reading beautifully thought-out novels. Without art, life becomes mundane.
